2024 News
3/18/2024: All the undergraduates received research awards to support their work this summer. Welcome to Ness (University Research Award), Steven (University Research Award), and Trina (NSERC Indigenous). We are all looking forward to working with you in May!
3/16/2024: Joshita presented a talk to The Wildlife Society-Manitoba outlining her MSc research and some preliminary results about oxylipins profiles from echinostome cercariae. Sidney also attended to network and hear more about the wildlife research going on in Manitoba.
2/27/2024: Sidney was awarded the Faculty of Science Fellowship in Graduate Excellence. 1 award was given for all the MScs within the Faculty, so this is a big honour.
2/14/2024: Our manuscript on whether oxylipins are affected by taxonomy, ontogeny, and predation was accepted by Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A. Congratulations to Olwyn (postdoc 2019-2022) for yet another paper!
2/9/2024: Joshita, Sidney, and Cameron presented at the department's Darwin Day Symposium about their MSc research. We followed a day of graduate student posters and presentations with evening trivia. They formed team Trematode, but sadly lost to Jillian's team. Better luck next time! : )
1/16/2024: Jillian presented to the Canadian Parasitology Network on the chemical ecology research entitled "The potential role of oxylipins in the chemical ecology of snail-trematode interactions". Great to share our work with other Canadian parasitologists.
1/15/2024: Sidney and Jillian presented to the Charleswood Rotary Club about the lab's brainworm-gastropod work in Assiniboine forest. We addressed this question: "Is Assiniboine Forest a hotspot for the brainworm parasite?"
1/8/2024: In the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Poster competition, Maya won 2nd place in the Life Sciences category. Her poster was on the genetic diversity of Trichinella in wolverines in Churchill, MB. This award-winning poster is now posted outside of Buller 511 - go check it out!
